Continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic(CFRT) honeycomb panels are composed of a honeycomb core and multi-layer continuous fiberglass reinforced layer. Continuous fiber reinforced composites include continuous fiber and thermal melt resin, Continuous fiber based composite materials are obtained by vacuum impact impregnation of continuous fibers in a molten thermoplastic resin. The core material is polypropylene pp with a honeycomb structure(round cell). Then laminated together with CFRT after thermal bonding.
Continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites panels have been widely used in carriage panels and ship hulls for their excellent properties such as aesthetics, light weight and flexibility. Its characteristics are as follows:
Lower density with high strength:
The density of CFRT honeycomb composite board is 1.1-1.6g/cm3, which can obtain higher mechanical strength and application grade with smaller unit mass.
Large degree of freedom for performance designability:
Since the performance of CFRT honeycomb composite panel itself has been achieved, the surface can be bonded with various kinds of surface materials to achieve its decorative function in different fields. The surface of CFRT honeycomb composite panel can be designed with much more freedom in material selection.
Thermal performance:
the general use temperature of plastic is 50-100℃, after reinforced with glass fiber, it can be increased to more than 100℃. the heat deflection temperature of PP is ℃, after reinforced with 30% glass fiber, the heat deflection temperature can be increased to 190℃. Thermosetting composites cannot reach such high heat resistance.
Chemical resistance:
mainly determined by the performance of the matrix material, there are many types of thermoplastic resins, each resin has its own anti-corrosion characteristics, therefore, according to the use of composite materials and media conditions, the matrix resin can be preferentially selected, generally can meet the use of the requirements of CFRT.
Electrical performance:
CFRT generally has good dielectric properties, does not reflect radio waves, good microwave transmission performance, etc. Since the water absorption rate of CFRT is smaller than that of thermosetting FRP, its electrical properties are better than the latter.
Waste material can be recycled:
new products can be recycled at the end of their service life without significant changes in physical and mechanical properties, which does not cause environmental pollution and is well suited to the environmental requirements of the materials industry in today's world.
In conclusion, CFRT is recyclable, has high specific strength and stiffness, good corrosion resistance, impact resistance, heat resistance, low cost and design flexibility, and has great potential for application in automotive lightweight design, replacing some metal materials and high-end polymer materials. Its combination of lightweight structure, specific strength and finishes can be widely used in different fields. Our CRFT skin honeycomb sandwich panels not only has a lighter and stronger bearing capacity but also has better impact resistance than Foam composite panels.
